VOICE OF THE DYING KING

HANDMAID LENTEN '17 REFLECTION

BY CHARLENE oGU

Good Friday is upon us! And today is a great day to spend real time with the Lord in prayer and meditation, ask him for the things you need to prepare your heart and unite yourself to him.

PILATE THEREFORE SAID TO HIM, “ARE YOU A KING THEN?” JESUS ANSWERED, “YOU SAY RIGHTLY THAT I AM A KING. FOR THIS CAUSE I WAS BORN AND FOR THIS CAUSE I HAVE COME INTO THE WORLD, THAT I SHOULD BEAR WITNESS TO THE TRUTH. EVERYONE WHO IS OF THE TRUTH HEARS MY VOICE." JOHN 18:37

So this is the last Lenten Reflection for 2017, I know it’s been a journey and I hope it’s helped and encouraged you. Cynthia and I have really loved travelling with you in the desert. Let's focus on the above verse, the passion of Christ from the Gospel of John is a long one, and for someone who’s reading it for the first time, it’s quite the drama. There is betrayal, conflict, and a huge dilemma and Jesus is in midst of it all.

For most of us today is a day of solemn preparation for Easter, a time of reflection and prayer. It may however be the case that you too are in the midst of a drama. Maybe there’s someone you’re struggling with, maybe you're surroundings are hard to deal with, maybe internally you have questions and heart aches that you can’t seem to resolve.

This is the time! Hold onto Christ as he embraces his cross; know that he holds you too and invites you to do the same. If you’re struggling with anything big or small, remember everything can be used for the glory of God. And if ever there was a day to pray and bring a need to God, this is that day. God took a day of great pain and suffering and made it good! Nobody saw that coming, it’s difficult to imagine when you’re in the midst of it all but today is the evidence of that goodness.

If you’re in a bit of a difficult season right now, I’m here to say me too! I will be praying for you as we enter into Easter. Come as you are, where you are, no one is keeping score, the only requirement is that you give up the score card and let yourself be loved.

If the desert has been a place of temptations and falls, that’s ok, get back up and keep on going into Easter, the Lord runs to you delighted to be with you. If it’s been your best Lent yet, Praise God!

Either way, take some time today, maybe before or after mass to be quiet and listen to his voice. Meditate on the cross and know that his love doesn’t need anything from you it just wants you.

IT IS RARE INDEED FOR ANYONE TO DIE FOR A RIGHTEOUS MAN, THOUGH FOR A GOOD MAN SOMEONE MIGHT POSSIBLY DARE TO DIE. BUT GOD PROVES HIS LOVE FOR US IN THIS: WHILE WE WERE STILL SINNERS, CHRIST DIED FOR US. ROMANS 5:9

So that's it, listen to his voice.
